I was heavily influenced by Dr. Athithan back in my college days. His studious drive was like none other. Also his ability to think differently, and spur me to do the same. So this blog post has some roots there.
I have read heavily in the business domain since entering it full force. It’s saved me time, money, and general sanity. It struck me though how little time I was spending thinking on my own. Books present wonderful ideas, but am I creating a dependency? Should I be satisfied with finding great ideas and never creating them? Isn’t there a great advantage in having dedicated thinking time?
Jack Welch said his best ideas came to him in the shower. I can imagine why. You are stuck in a small closet, closed off to every distraction. All that’s left is the moving cogs of your mind.
Recently my thoughts have been dancing on paper. “Why” is the major theme. Oh, what it leads to! I just put my ramblings down as well as I can articulate them in the moment. Descartes’ Discourse on Method inspired me.
Slowly, a systems seems to be forming from the ramblings. Who can say what it will lead to, but I know it’s exciting and new. Pages were filled with broken ideas, syllogism, premises, assumptions, skepticism and so on. Think of kneading bread dough to form gluten so it can be elastic. That’s what I feel is happening to my mind.
I am currently working through my biggest issue; the system and philosophy of business engineering. That’s a huge and complex issue that has plagued me recently. I feel that no one has handled it well(Mintzberg is close), but rather I am reading conclusions without a clear line of comprehensive reasoning.
This is getting very fun, though I am reminded how the human view of reality is dim and narrow, and only small parts can be got.
