First of all, I believe that capitalism is one of the greatest goods, since great companies provide rock steady livings for millions of people. I believe the free market is a device, left on it's own, that is the best self correcting mechanism in existence, and can solve even the most complex problems. To the degree that it is burdened with regulation is the degree of hate that exists for the industry. Case in point: Health care.
Also, I believe the principles of the free market can be applied in new ways to the workplace, giving all employees and departments the chance to profit by providing value.
But on to management. There, I believe most people that run a business have something wrong with them. I liken them to the folks that show up on American Idol, clueless about how bad they really are. What is criticism? And to become a better business man/woman, you must study study study. I like to study at least a book every month, which you can find on my Linkedin profile. It's not about the raw data you breeze through, but the amount of ideas and nuggets of wisdom you can apply to your workplace and life. I believe a book forgotten is a book never read, so therefore I take notes, and then make them into Kindle flashcards. Oldschool, but it works.
Back to management though. I believe in giving ever increasing autonomy, and rewarding people as directly as possible for the value they create for me. I have a world changing system in the works, so stand-bye for that. I believe in managing the what, not the how. Hiring slow, firing fast. Oh I could go on.
For the workplace, I believe that it must be a place I would want work at. Being social, relaxed and effective is my way, and therefore the way of the office. Check out the Bixly career pages to get a taste for our work place.
For worklife balance, I stop working at 5pm. Anything that can't be done before then reflects my inability to manage properly. My family is important, and I would just hate to mess them up.
As for being a good entrepreneur, I think it takes a large dose of awareness, pickiness, stubbornness, energy, and a system of self improvement. Ambiguity Aversion, Group Think, Innovation Paradox,Brands, and a host of other topics seem to creep up in my conversations every week, and I believe they are worth understanding.
I wish the English speaking world would use SoundsSpel. That wood bee amazing.
